Cake is coming to the Main Street Armory! Truly a momentous event for Rochester.
2008 The Year of the House
We have been very busy so far this year with home renovations. In February we had the bathroom remodeled. A week later we had the downstairs windows replaced. In April we had the house painted and front steps replaced. Check out the pictures of our latest endeavor. Blowing our savings has never been so much fun!
My Thoughts Exactly
Who will tell the people? We are not who we think we are. We are living on borrowed time and borrowed dimes. We still have all the potential for greatness, but only if we get back to work on our country.
More on Obama
You may know who Marc Andreessen is. He recently wrote a blog entry about Barack Obama explaining a conversation that he was able to have with him prior to the start of his campaign. It’s a pretty interesting perspective, especially if you’re wondering what the guy is really like.
Money and the Election
I just came across this interesting piece of info. From the NY Times Politics Blog:
Only 10 percent of Clinton contributors did not donate the legal maximum $2,300 for her primary campaign. In contrast, only three percent of Obama donors gave the maximum. The rest of the cash came from small sums from many more people.
Check out Obama’s website, he has nearly one million donors to date.
To me there’s two interesting things about this:
- When you hear someone say that Obama won a state because he outspent Clinton, keep in mind how he got the money.
- The internet has changed the way elections work. It has allowed anyone to easily donate to the campaign they support. It keeps people up to date on what is happening. It decentralizes the control of information. It gets people, including young people, interested again.
The Bathroom
Over the last 8 days Jane and I have been going through the exciting process of a bathroom remodeling. I’ve posted some pictures of the festivities. Our old bathroom had a vinyl floor that was pieced together from the remains of the vinyl floor that was installed in the kitchen by previous owners. It involved a lot of caulk to hole it together where it met the walls a was peeling up in places. The floor was also beginning to sag and the old pipes were starting to cause problems. Our tub was a unmaintainable mess as well.
That’s all changed now! Our contractor tore out the old floor and sub floor and installed a new, level, sub floor in preparation for new tile. The tub surround got removed and replaced with subway tile and we got a nice new tub. At this point things are looking really good.
We still have to paint the room. Once that is done we can install the new cabinets and pedestal sink and things should be close to done.
Obama @ Google
Here’s a video of Barack Obama’s visit to Google. He talks about his Innovation Agenda as well as other plans for his potential presidency. He then fields questions from the audience.
Obama
In person I’m usually quite willing to discuss politics, my views, and what I think is wrong with the world (and right). I never write about it though. But with one day left to the NY primaries I think I will. I’m going to vote for Barack Obama. I know he’s a long shot in the NY, but he still has my vote. I think you should vote for him too, wherever you are. Here’s some reasons why I’ll vote for him.
- In 14 years of voting I’ve never had a single politician that I actually wanted to vote for. It’s always been “they seem better than that other guy.” This is the first time I really feel different about it. I could blab on and on here about why I’m going to vote for the guy, but Caroline Kennedy did a better job in her NYT op-ed endorsement of Obama last Sunday. If you’re my age (32 apparently, also on Sunday), you’ve probably heard your parents or relatives talk about how inspiring and positive JFK was. I wonder what it would be like to have a president like that.
- He seems to actually have a grasp on technology. I got depressed a few weeks ago when I read this article about how pathetic US politicians are when it comes to technology. The one “exception to the rule” that they mention is Obama’s Innovation and Technology Plan. There are some great ideas in there and having a president that could actually have this discussion is, in my mind at least, pretty important when it comes to some key issues like the economy, national security, and education. At the very least I’m sure Obama won’t refer to the internet as a series of tubes, or “the internets.”
It looks like the country is already fired up about this election, which seems like a good thing, and I’m excited to see how things play out. I even heard that 37% of the country is more interested in Super Tuesday than the Super Bowl. That’s pretty amazing.
Happy Birthday
Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Michael… Happy Birthday to you!
Has it really been that long?
October 19th? Is this really the last time FM.com has been updated? Pathetic!
